3 Things You Should Start Doing as a Pet Sitter To Prevent Burnout

Updated: Jul 20

It can always feel a bit overwhelming starting a new job and it's ten folds when you start your own business. I've gone through the teething process and learnt a few things along the way. I've compacted these experiences as 3 things you should start doing as a pet sitter to prevent burnout as a guide to help you start your business, or improve it.

These are our suggestions that you should start doing as a pet sitter to prevent burnout (or at least reduce it's intensity):

acknowledge and recognise your energy levels: I know, this seems so simple but yet so difficult to implement. You need to acknowledge your energy levels to reduce burnout and recognise what your mind and body are craving, such as, time away from social media, prepare food for the day / week so you’re not running off quick snacks (I’m guilty here) or even treat yourself to a podcast during a dog walk.

set boundaries: Running a small business, particularly pet sitting, can mean your work schedule is all over the place and even mean you are away from home. You need to set work hours as a boundary so you aren’t responding to enquiries and messages unless they will impact your next day and it means you still get a life outside of the business. Phones are great but they make us feel like we need to respond straight away - and we don’t. I’d recommend downloading @whatsappbusiness for this.

18 month planner: This has been the best business purchase I have EVER made. Every month, you can set goals for that month which allows you focus on areas you want to improve without looking at the whole picture (because that can become daunting) and then you can plan each week what you want to work on. I brought mine from @tkmaxxuk and they normally have a great selection of stationery.
