Running has really come into its own of the last year or so. Whether it's a New Years resolution that's picked up some traction or the strong movement of working on yourself and improving your mental health, either way, I'm here for it. Pair your habit with your dog's walk (that are naturally built for running), it's truly the perfect combination and here's why:
Two birds with one stone: A quick win but no doubt an all-mighty one. Factoring in a run with your dog into your schedule is a great way to be time efficient. Rather than going on a run and then walking your dog after or before, you get exercise and so does your dog in less amount of time!
Wellbeing: Not only do you both benefit from running physically (e.g. help build strong bones, strength muscles and general overall fitness, the list goes on..) but mentally. Running is a great mood booster for your dog and they absolutely love it.
Exploring new areas together: Running is a wonderful way to explore new areas, new terrains and new environment - and what better way that doing it with a man's best friend? One way to get the ball rolling is to write a list of all the places and walks that you would like to visit and see if you can make a run.
Security: The last point leads me nicely to security. Dogs have an innate ability to make you feel safe and secure, they have great awareness for scent and sound for things that we wouldn't pick up. When you are out on your runs with your dog, you naturally feel less lonely and new areas seem less daunting.
Doing it together: Doing a task together with a pet is a great form of mental stimulation and even encourages ongoing trust to be forming and evolving. Your relationship with your dog will become stronger, they can become better at listening and responding to commands (old and new) and you can both build your fitness up together. With that being said, Dogs and Running make the perfect combination but not with a period of trial and error. Although running is a natural activity for both of you, it would be a new terrain to be doing it with a partner, let alone another species. Take the time to read tips on how to integrate this new activity in your schedules and allow room for errors. It's time to pull out your running shoes and look at ideal harnesses and/leads for dogs to run in. Who knows? These tips above might open the world of CaniSport for you. ...But on second thoughts, you JUST know that running isn't for you but you would like your dog to benefit from these points, we also offer Dog Runs as part of our service.
