Guinea pigs are wonderful creatures - they are obliviously hilarious and they never fail to put a smile on your face when they have a "wheet" in excitement (normally for a slice of apple). Not only are they totally adorable, they are great at eating all your leftover foods that would get wasted, which makes them even greater in my books. It's time to source out some leftover foods that your guinea pigs will love for a lil inexpensive treat.

Here is a list of leftover food your guinea pig will love:

  • Salad: Romaine Lettuce (in moderation), Bell Peppers, Tomatoes (not leaves and vines!), Cucumber (in moderation), Watercress, Spinach (in moderation) and Rocket.

  • Herbs: Rosemary, Dill, Mint, Coriander and Parsley (in moderation).

  • Veggies: Broccoli (in moderation), Carrot Tops, Swiss Chard, Asparagus, Pak Choi and Baby corn.

  • Fruit: Orange, Apple, Blueberries, Strawberries and very thin slice of Banana. With fruit, it's got to be viewed as occasional treat as it can give them an upset stomach.

I guess it's time to note this down and check it when you are clearing out your fridge and fruit bowl to see if your guinea pig can eat it before it goes in the bin.
