Pet sitting is a wonderful business and if you want to take the next steps to turn it into a career, here is our tips to set up a pet business to help get you started:

Brand

The most important place to start - your brand!

  • What’s your business name going to be?

  • What’s your speciality? What qualities do you have that would make people love to have you as a pet sitter?

  • What service are going to offer and to what pets?

  • What’s your price list for these services?

  • What’s your availability?

Platform

With your branding sorted, next is to think about the platform.

  • Where are you going to promote your services?

  • Will you create a website? If so, what’s going to be the website provider?

  • What will you want your website to look like? and what’s the purpose of it?

  • Will you promote on social media? Instagram, facebook, TikTok, Twitter, LinkedIn - all, some or none?

  • How will you accept and manage bookings?

Business’y things

Now it’s time to think about the legalities, requirements and the desirable.

  • If you are a UK business, you need to register as a business on the GOV website and register for Corporation Tax.

  • It’s worth setting up a business card, we highly recommend using Mettle By Natwest to start off with. Will you look into getting an accountant?

  • Will you get a DBS checked and insured? Although it’s not essential as a pet sitter, it helps boost your credibility.

  • Time to set up your business page on google under ‘Google Business Profile’ to help clients can find you.

These are all good places to start off for the first 6 months and as you develop and grow, these questions will change accordingly.
